Progress Comprehensive School held their first virtual award ceremony

Motivations poured as South African Professional Network Association members sent messages inspiration to help revive the spirit of learning in the children.

Progress Comprehensive School normally hosts award ceremonies quarterly but this year they couldn’t due to the Covid_19 pandemic. Learners got a chance to experience a new way of doing things in the country where mass gatherings are prohibited.

Learners were glued to their smart boards to see who made it in the first quarter. Charmaine Mtshali said seeing the video made her feel more motivated and the whole experience made her more excited.

Chairperson of the School Governing Body Bishop Mabasa said he sees the virtual ceremony as an inspiration to the children and the educators.

He explained that the learners should not use the pandemic as an excuse not to study.

“The ceremony will inspire the learners to want to reach the standards of those who have collected the accolades.

“They can still give us 90% and more which they promised at the beginning of the academic year,” said Mabasa.

The principal of the school Magdalene Makgoba said they had to host the ceremony to motivate the learners especially now that they are facing a situation where some of them are losing hope and are no longer motivated like they were at the beginning of the year.

Chairperson of the awards and matric dance committee Kholofelo Kekana explained that the reason they organised such an event is that they noticed an unusual pattern in the attendance of the learners.

“Most of them do not attend, other bunk classes and others have the mentality that due to the pandemic they will all pass.

“So we had to come up with a way to motivate them while adhering to the lockdown regulations,” explained Kekana.
