The man accused of rape made his second appearance in court.

Gender-Based Violence and rape have caused the people from Soweto to be unsettled as they stood with the victim of rape and her family at the Protea Magistrate’s Court demanding for the rapist to not get granted bail.

The man accused of rape made his second appearance in court and the people that came to see the hand of justice take its course like Mbuso Hlatshwayo said, “Rapists should not be allowed in our societies, because they really make life difficult.”

Hlatshwayo explained that the people who eventually rape usually use substances and they are perpetrators of gender-based violence and corruption in households.

The South African Police Service, with Stats SA, has published the country’s crime statistics for 2019/20 and the stats have revealed how to contact crimes, including sexual assault, which have slightly increased for 2020 compared to 2019.

The sibling to the 24-year-old, Rejoice Ramfate explained that they desired for the rapist to not even get any bail for violating their daughter, Ramfate said, “It is disappointing that the rapist came from the same street as our daughter, he raped her and showed no remorse, we would like to see justice take its full course.”

The Police Minister, Bheki Cele spoke at the occasion of the release of the annual crime statistics about sexually violent crimes, he said, “Awareness campaigns on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide must be intensified; the private sector and gender activists’ organizations must work together with the government to defeat the scourge and expose perpetrators in this regard.”
Sizakele Nkosi also joined in to expose the rapist and cry for justice for the young woman who was raped, she said, “Our society needs love and unity, people must stop abusing and violating women and children because they are our future’s mothers who are supposed to take care of our children with love. When you get rid of them including our future’s mighty rocks our future won’t have pillars.”

Sizakele said, “We condemn rape and violence,” before returning to demonstrate with the other demonstrators outside the court.

The Communications Officer for the Protea Glen SAPS, Sergeant Vincent Mashiteng said, “People should be mindful of the following Contact Crimes Prevention Tips;”
1. The rape must be immediately reported to the police.
2. It is very important that the victim does not bath after being violated as this will erode the DNA evidence against the perpetrator.
3. Even though it is difficult, victims must try their best to look at their attackers for identification purposes.
4. Victims must properly and specifically identify the crime scene, it will also help to gather more DNA evidence.
5. Regularly interact with the investigating officer to be assisted with Counseling.
