‘More than just dance’

Girls choose dance over streets.

Dipuo ‘Peechizz’ Maloi has a vision for little girls in Ndofaya and that is to groom them into dancers and responsible young women.

Maloi started dancing when she was a teenager and has worked with the likes of Arthur Mafokate, Chomee, Chicco Twala.

Dancing gave her a better perspective about life.

Maloi says: “I got to do what I love and expose myself to different worlds.

“At a young age I was committed and knew what I wanted to achieve.”

The 27-year-old part-time model and dancer has a dance group called Ndofaya’s Finest where girls from the ages of six to 18 dance.

They get to perform at different occasions.

She says talent needs to be nurtured at a young age.

Chomee, who grew up in Ndofaya, is one of the people the many young dancers look up to because of how successful her career has been.

Maloi has big plans for these girls.

“I want to groom them into being successful and hard working girls.

“Teenage pregnancies, drug and alcohol abuse and HIV/Aids are destroying little girls’ lives in Ndofaya.

“It hurts to see this happen and I would not want to more girls to destroy their lives,” she says.

Maloi is not just a dance teacher to the girls but she is a big sister too.

“They talk to me about things they do not talk to their parents about and I advise them because I have been there,” she says.
