Activated charcoal and aloe vera DIY mask

‘Do It Yourself’ facial which you can do in the comfort of your own home as part of a little ‘self-care treat’.

Many of us tend to get dragged into a routine where we sometimes forget the importance of ‘self-care’. In a few issues back, we asked residents what they do as a self-care routine and the residents each had a different explanation or definition for ‘self-care’.

We thought it would be a good idea to share an easy ‘Do It Yourself’ facial which you can do in the comfort of your own home as part of a little ‘self-care treat’.

Today, we share what the benefits are of using two simple ingredients and these are: Activated Charcoal and Aloe Vera Gel, one can also add a little water if one needs to.

The blog called: spagoddess.com explains: “Activated charcoal effectively cleanses the skin, unclogs pores, removes deeper impurities, and dead skin cells. The result is smooth, supple, and even-toned skin. Dirt, toxins, heavy metals, chemicals, and other poisons are attracted to the charcoal molecules and washed away.”

Aloe Vera gels help treat acne-prone skin; it also helps restore moisture in dry skin.

Activated Charcoal can be bought at your local stores at a very reasonable price and Aloe Vera Gel can be found in some of our gardens in our aloe vera plants, if not then you can also buy Aloe Vera Gel from the shops.

The mask is simple, you just mix the two ingredients (equal parts) into a paste and then apply it onto your face, you may add little water to the paste. You can leave it on for about ten minutes and then wash it off.

Your face should feel soft and clean. Activated Charcoal can stain white clothes so it is better to wear a dark t-shirt just in case you get some on your clothes.

Please note that if you have sensitive or problematic skin it is advisable that you first go to a dermatologist, it is always best to seek professional advice first before using products on your skin.
