The Langlaagte Women’s Network joined in solidarity for the violence against women and children that have been happening in the country
According to Constable Phumi Kraai, a chain of prayer was formed to pray for peace and calm in the country.
Last week the nation was in shock after hearing about the story of nineteen-year-old Uyinene Mrwetyana. Mrwetyana was a first-year student at the University of Cape Town who went missing on August 24, it was discovered that the student visited a post office and was raped and killed by an employee at the post office.
As the nation discovered this horrifying news, many women and men took to social media to share their views.
Once the topic was trending, more women shared their stories of how they were raped or how other loved ones were raped and even murdered, many started remembering victims who were killed due to gender-based violence. And as many mourned, others were furious about the state of the country and how many women are violated and killed in the country, these emotions led to marches all over the country.

On September 6, The Langlaagte Women’s Network together with the Langlaagte Community Patrollers and the Langlaagte Police Victim Empowerment supporters joined in solidarity for the violence against women and children that have been happening in the country.
According to Constable Phumi Kraai, a chain of prayer was formed to pray for peace and calm in the country.
“The message of the day was ‘Kwanele’ (Enough is Enough). The Langlaagte police would like to encourage women and children to speak out about abuse, report so that you can get help. Contact the Langlaagte Police Victim Empowerment Office for any assistance on gender-based violence,” concluded Constable Kraai.
