The film showed that through the work done by Liefferink, people can now be educated of the after effect of gold mining and how it can be detrimental to not only the environment surrounding it but also the people who live in the surrounding areas. Jozi Gold showed how after a mine been liquidated, the effects it has on the people who depended on mining for an income.

“Sylvia has been active with the Riverlea Mining Forum and Mariette has been giving us information and assisting us legal wise. This was supposed to be a public meeting but Sylvia called me and told me about the documentary that was how everything just fell into place,” said Mark Kayter, Chairperson of the Riverlea Mining Forum.

The documentary premiered at the Encounters South African International Documentary Festival and has been screened in communities around South Africa. The film will still have an International Premiere.

“Riverlea has helped us to make the film, there are some characters in the film from Riverlea. A community like this must be helped by a film like this, so they can take the next step of being activist and putting pressure so that the issue raised in the film of environmental disaster and the impact of peoples health can be addressed,” said Vollenhoven.
