Eldorado park striving towards a drug free Eldos

Eldos breaks the silence against substance abuse.

Sunday, June 23 marked the official launch of drug awareness month. The Eldorado Park Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC) task team hosted a divine intervention anti-drug awareness motorcade with the aim to mobilise the community and encourage everyone to speak out against social ills and substance abuse.

The motorcade was the official launch of week-long activations within the Greater Eldorado Park and was supported by various NGOs within the community that has been fighting the scourge of substance abuse.

The LDAC task team was joined by Johannesburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba and the MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun.

Eldorado Park’s ‘Queen of Smoke’ and South Africa’s motorsport spinning sensation, Stacey-Lee May lead the anti-drug motorcade which started at the Yellow Ribbon Foundation and ended at the Eldorado Park Civic Centre.

Residents came out in numbers to support the initiative and many have committed to helping change the tide within the Eldorado Park community.

“We are striving towards a drug-free Eldorado Park. We believe that it is possible, there is hope, there will always be hope but it is up to us to make that change,” said anti-drug activist and community leader Dereleen James.

Eldorado Park SAPS, The Yellow Ribbon Foundation, the Eldorado Park CPF and the local Youth Crime Prevention desk were amongst the stakeholders who were apart of the awareness campaign.

Communications officer Constable Fezeka Khobo said that the motorcade was a success. “We were graced by the presence of the Correctional Services, Gauteng Province Community Safety, SANCA, Women of Worth, Eldorado Park Neighbourhood watch, Eldorado Park Traffic Solutions, EMS, SADAG as well as PUSH and TAG,” said Khobo.
