A stranger danger programme for the children of Eldorado Park

'Prevention is always better than cure'

With the increase of missing children cases, Enique Bezuidenhout, who is the missing persons coordinator from the Eldorado Park Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC) initiated a program that would create awareness and teach children about the dangers of engaging with unknown persons.

The programme, known as ‘Captain Khumalo’s Stranger Danger Programme’ was held at Eldridge Primary School in Eldorado Park, on June 12.

”Our hope for this programme is to teach our children to stay away from strangers,” said Bezuidenhout.

”The programme not only reiterates the importance of not talking to strangers, but it also encourages children to be alert at all times and to ensure that if they feel unsafe, they should talk to their teachers, parents or caregivers.

” We should promote the spirit of pro-activeness and not always be reactive, prevention is always better than cure”, she added.

The Eldorado Park LDAC aims to take this program to all primary schools within the Greater Eldorado Park area.

”Not only do we want to reduce missing children reports, but we want to create awareness about the importance of road safety and overall child protection,” said Bezuidenhout.

”The Eldorado Park LDAC works tirelessly with Wendy Skeens from the Pink Ladies Missing Person/s NPO and Wendy Pascoe from Wendy Pascoe Private Investigations Pty Ltd as well as several other entities across the country to get our little ones home safely when they are reported missing,” she added.

”We appreciate and are extremely grateful for the various entities that were involved. A special note of gratitude to Eldridge Primary School, Cheryl Pillay, SAPS Eldorado Park, Captain Granville Meyer, JMPD and Spar Eldorado Park,” she concluded.
