Barbers and barber trainees from Legends Barbershop visited Heerengracht Primary School in Eldorado Park Extension Four on Wednesday, May 22 to bring nobility to young boys and encourage them to be confident.

Sheldon Tatchell, who is the owner of Legends Barbershop said the main objective of hosting the barbershop day was not only to give back to the community but to promote neatness and confidence as well.

Tatchell, who attended school at Heerengracht many years ago said that he knows of many boys who simply cannot afford to get a decent haircut.

“That is why we are here today, to bring dignity to these boys. I remember when growing up, the boys who were more confident were the ones who had the nicest hairstyles. As a result, my team and I hope to spark confidence in these young boys,” he added.

Legends Barbershop is committed to giving back to communities. “We started out being a small barbershop in Extension Two.

“We visited the Andries Meyer Old Age Home quite often and we enjoyed spending time with the elderly.

“We made sure to cut their hair neatly on a monthly basis and that is where the name ‘Legends’ came from because the elderly are the legends of our community.

“Giving back is a part of who we are, we always look for ways to uplift communities,” said Tatchell.

“We make it our priority to give back. We go to schools and universities as well. A drive we had recently, involved the cutting of men’s hair who sit on street corners. It is all about restoring dignity,” he added.

The Legends Barbershop staff from the Maponya Mall branch in Soweto set up shop in one of the classrooms at the school. Boys from Grade 1-7 received free haircuts.

Eden Daniels, the principal at the school described the initiative as one of a kind.

“It is truly amazing when our learners come back to the school wanting to give back. This will definitely instil pride in our learners.

“Neatness is so important because it goes hand in hand with discipline. I am especially proud of Sheldon and his entire team. Barbershop day caused so much excitement in our school and I am extremely proud,” the principal concluded.
