Two arrests in Westbury and Westdene for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and for possession of a stolen motor vehicle

Police are appealing to members of the public to report all criminal activities.

Communications officer, Captain Jerbes de Bruyn announced that over the past weekend the Sophiatown police had made two arrests for serious offences.

According to the Captain, on May 11 at around 8.40pm, police officers went on their routine patrols around the Westbury area when they spotted a suspicious person in Tamboekie court.

“When the suspect saw the police vehicle he started to run. The members started to chase the suspect on foot and managed to apprehend him.

“The suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” explained de Bruyn.



“The suspect was also found to be a known gang member in the Westbury area.

A docket of the case of possession of an unlicensed firearm was opened,” added de Bruyn.

On the Sunday of May 12 at about 11:15 pm, four suspects were arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

“When members of the Sophiatown saps were doing routine patrols in Westdene they noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area as there was no front registration plate on the vehicle.

“The vehicle was stopped and the back-number plate was tested and found to be a false number plate, with further investigation it was found that the vehicle was reported stolen in Florida in April of this year.

“All 4 suspects were arrested and detained for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle,” concluded the communications officer.

Police are appealing to members of the public to report all criminal activities.

Any information may anonymously be reported to Crime Stop at 08600 10111 at all hours. Information on serious and violent crimes may also be rewarded.
