Residents march to the municipal offices

Soweto Concerned Residents (SCR) and elderly citizens from Diepkloof and other Soweto townships recently took to the streets and marched to different municipal offices for the R5 campaign.

The campaign is against market related charges for basic services for unemployed elderly.

Chairperson of SCR, Joyce Mashinini, said they supported the elderly in the campaign because individuals are sometimes turned away from the offices.

“It is required for the elderly to pay R60 per year, nothing less and some officials are quick to forget that,” she said.

Mashinini said they will continue to march until they are heard.
