Sharing stories to inspire others

"Our plan is to motivate 29 000 in all 9 provinces"

Actors Wayne Van Rooyen, who many know as ‘Stokkies’ from the E! Soapie, Scandal!, Jacques Blignaut, who many know as ‘Vince’, from 7de Laan and Poet Grevon Jacobs visited the Yellow Ribbon Foundation in Eldorado Park today, May 14, in hopes to inspire the youth of the community.

The trio started a company called Uniquely Formed with the objective of reaching out to schools across South Africa. The trio said that they tell stories to motivate and inspire everyone to be their best self. They tell stories in the form of storytelling, poetry and acting.

They also said that they target schools because that is the place where the mindsets of young people are formed.

“We want the youth to discover that they too have a story to tell,” said Van Rooyen.

“Since our children are exposed to bullying, drug usage, absent parents, lack of self-love and information, our message aims to show how circumstances should never stand in the way of one becoming the hero in one’s own story,” said Blignaut.

The talented poet, Grevon Jacobs, recited a poem about Eldorado Park and left everyone in awe. The poem clearly depicts the state of the community.

The motivational speakers spoke about the importance of being present and not paying attention to the noise. The youth were encouraged to stop wasting time and to stop entertaining other people’s drama. “When you focus on yourself, incredible things happen,” the trio said.

They have vowed to visit Eldorado Park again. “Next time we hope to visit schools in the community,” they said.
