“The level of water was just too much for the drainage system to contain, hence flooding occurred,” – Peter Rafferty.

Ward Councillor Peter Rafferty talks about last nights flooding in Eldorado Park.

More than 10 homes in Eldorado Park, Extension Nine, were flooded after a Storm hit the Greater Eldorado Park area just before 6 pm last night.

Residents in the area spoke about the drains in the area that have been blocked since last year.

According to Ward Councillor Peter Rafferty the Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) was on site late last night trying to unblock the drains in the area. “For the remainder of the week JRA will clean out all the stormwater drains,” said Rafferty. “The level of water was just too much for the drainage system to contain, hence flooding occurred,” he added.

Rafferty said that many of the drains in the area are filled with litter and dirt. “As residents, we also need to start taking responsibility and making sure our drains are dirt free,” Rafferty concluded.
