Two trees uprooted by strong winds in Riverlea

The concern that residents have is that the big trees are obscuring their view while they are walking through the park, and this could become an area for thieves to hide in at night.

Over the past few weeks there have been heavy rains in our area, and with these heavy rains come many issues in our community.

Issues such as flooding in residents’ homes and power outages. Along with the heavy rains came the heavy winds which cause a lot of issues for the residents in Riverlea, with regards to the mine dumps in the area. However, this article is about the strong winds blowing down two big trees in one of the parks in Riverlea.

The two trees were blown down a few days apart from each other in the same park and residents were surprised to see that it has been over a week that the two trees are still laying down in the park. A few residents stated that they have reported it to their ward councillor Basil Douglas, however, the trees still remain there.

In a short conversation with the ward councillor, he stated that the issue has been reported to Regional Manager, Alton Rankin at Johannesburg City Parks. At the time of the article been published, the issue had not yet been prioritised by City Parks and the trees still lay in the park.

The concern that residents have is that the big trees are obscuring their view while they are walking through the park, and this could become an area for thieves to hide in at night and start robbing the people walking through the park.

No incidents have been reported with regards to crime there but residents are hoping that the trees be removed soon.
