Making Eldos Great Again rally draws massive support from residents

"As a community, we have enough mental capacity to sort out our own problems. Of course we welcome help from the government, but obviously it has taken too long, we need intervention now," said Adams.

The historic Make Eldos Great Again (MEGA) rally took place on October 12 and 13th and as promised, Eldorado Park was painted red with hundreds of people in support of the movement.

The aim of the MEGA rally was to remove the stigma the Eldorado Park community possesses. The rally was organised to unite behind matriculants who will be starting with their final examinations next week.
On the first day of the rally, matriculants, high school principals and residents gathered at the Extension Six Soccer grounds for a motivational session. The Eldorado Park Principals Forum , which consists of the school principals, were present to talk to the pupils and hopefully encourage them to do well in the upcoming exams.

Marlon Louw, who is the principal at the Eldorado Park Secondary School, commonly referred to as the Blue School, explained to the learners why the MEGA rally was so important.

He said, “We need to give the so called townships back to God. We need to show everyone that there is greatness in our community and that we can be known for doing good, reach for the stars matriculants, set goals and dream big.”

MEGA rally organiser, pastor Ashley Sauls addressed the crowd and encouraged them to trust in God and put Him first in everything.

“We are a praying community and believe me when I say Eldorado Park will be great again,” said Sauls.

The second day started at around 11am and residents gathered at the Main Road and Boundary Road intersection to form a cross and hold a prayer session for the Greater Eldorado Park community. Sauls said that divine intervention was needed for the drugs and violence plaguing the community.

The prayer session was peaceful and Charlton Brown, a resident who was in attendance, said that the organisers chose to do things the right way and that no police presence was necessary.

The MEGA spokesperson, Urick Adams, said that various government interventions have been fruitless.

“As a community, we have enough mental capacity to sort out our own problems. Of course we welcome help from the government, but obviously it has taken too long, we need intervention now,” said Adams.

Sauls said that he firmly believed that there a breakthrough that will happen in the community. “We just have to stand together and lift one another up,” he said.
