On August 31, a fire destroyed a mobile classroom at Eldorado Park Secondary School which is known locally as the ‘Blue school’.

He said, “There were learners surrounding the classroom, they were on the field like they always are and one of them then ran to the security quarters to report that the classroom was on fire.”

Staff members immediately rallied together to stop the fire. Buckets of water and a hose were used to douse the flames. A fire engine arrived at 1 pm to make sure the area was safe and that the fire was extinguished correctly.

The school principal, Marlon Louw, that the mobile classroom was being used to teach Life Orientation and that all grades made use of the classroom.

“It is a great loss to the school, that classroom was being utilized. I can confirm that none of my learners were hurt and that the cause of the fire is still unknown, said Louw.

“Pupils were immediately sent home to ensure their safety,” he added.

This is the second blaze to destroy property in the area, just three weeks ago, eight buses were torched at the Metro Bus depot directly opposite the school.
