Every unborn baby’s saving grace

Lil Choices networks with adoption agencies to find suitable homes for children.

The women of wonder awards are held annually to give recognition to women who have made an impact on society.

Rae Bagus (68) received one of the awards because of her work as the founder and director of the organisation called Lil Choices. The organisation was established after Bagus noticed the high rate of abortions and abandoned babies in our communities.

One of the situations which Lil Choices deals with is that of teenage girls who fall pregnant, the families are ashamed and want the teen to get rid of the baby or the girl will be banished.

The organisation gives pregnant girls the choice of having their baby without being shamed and also deciding the future of the child. The girls decide between keeping their baby and giving the baby up for adoption.

Lil Choices networks with adoption agencies to find suitable homes for these children. The organisation has had 58 cases that have been successful. They only have one room with beds set up for pregnant girls who have no other place to go.

They also help the girls through their pregnancies with medical check-ups. Lil Choices was nominated by someone who heard about the organisation and liked what the organisation does to help in society.

When asked about how she felt about the win she said: “I felt great, you know every organisation waits for the finances to come and when the money doesn’t come, you get demotivated and it feels like nothing’s going to happen. Then all of a sudden you get an award and that lifts you up.”

The organisation continues to strive towards helping society and also saving lives, not only of babies but also giving mothers the peace of mind that they have a roof over their heads and their babies are well taken care of.
