What does Youth Day mean to you?

Youth Day holds many different meanings to South African youth. For many, what stood out, is the high price our freedom was bought for.

The youth is not only an age group between childhood and adulthood, it’s far more than that. I strongly believe it’s the link that determines where our country would be heading in years to come. In our youth, we were simply given an opportunity to step onto the training ground of life. This is where leaders, heroes, guardians and much more are made. Simply put, I believe the youth are the future of South Africa.- Clint Mathavhathe

Youth Day is not only about remembering the past but it is also a representation of a turning point for our country. We celebrate the autonomy of the youth and its influence on society as well as celebrating being young. – Kelly Swartz

Youth day is a celebration in order to recognise the role of the youth in South Africa during the apartheid regime, and how they fought more for us. It’s about becoming a diverse nation and most importantly, for our free pass education. – Latifah Schoeman

Remembering the past,  June 16, 1976, which was a turning point in South Africa. Showing that together we can stand if we are united and we stand together as one. Many of our mothers and fathers lost their sons and daughters who stood up for what they believed in. They fought against the system of Bantu education and they are an example, an inspiration to us all. It was freedom that came at a price. – Shawn Capone
