Honouring the top achievers of Westbury High

Check out these top achievers from Westbury Secondary School.

Westbury Secondary School held their Honours Evening on February 22, at the schools’ hostel. It was an evening with many tears of joy and proud parents and teachers as the top learners of the school were honoured.

The awards were presented to the learners who excelled in Grade 8 to 11 last year.

The top achievers in each grade were as follows:

– Grade 8 – Leandra Macks

– Grade 9 – Alicia Lawrence

– Grade 10 – Diandre Gomez

– Grade 11 – Mercy Omosuwa

The overall winner and ‘simply the best’ learner was Mercy Omosuwa. Principal Doc Been Robinson said: “It’s the best honours evening that we had in a long time.

“We are honouring our kids and even the parents were captivated by the event. We also had some of our partners such as WESTCODE that were present.”

When asked what made this years’ honours evening different than the previous year’s, Robinson said: “I’m trying to find out what made it so different to the other years but I haven’t found that out as yet. I wish that the evening never ended, that’s just how nice it was. We just now hoping that we have more honours children in the future.”

The principal added that they set the bar high every year by awarding the honours students of the previous year.

“It gives them a better reflection of the previous year than to rather have it in the same year before the final exams. Good things are happening here and I believe that we are going to break records,” concluded Robinson.

According to educator, Sheldon Morgan, Mercy Omosuwa’s parents were excited at their daughter’s achievement of being the top learner in every grade while at the school. The awards recognised the learners who work consistently throughout the academic year.
