Meet Ward 68 Public Steering Committee

Steering the community in the right direction.

A new committee in Ward 68 has been established. The committee is called the Public Steering Committee (PSC) for Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMME’s) within the ward.

The objective of the committee is to bring all the entities together under one umbrella.

This is to compensate for jobs that have been overlooked as well as other things within the ward due to the lack of understanding of the basic structure, of making sure that all documentation is processed so that when it comes to tender process you can be successful.

The chairman of the committee is Voughan Reyneke, Blanche Elias is the treasurer and Maxene Milton is the secretary.

The structure of the committee is divided into a database that separates the SMME’S and the unemployed. And under the unemployed they are divided as follows;

  • Skilled
  • Semi-skilled
  • And unskilled

All the information is separated by the above-mentioned divisions, so that within the ward if you looking for specific persons under the above-mentioned divisions, if a contractors are looking for plumbers we can pull out information of 50 plumbers from the above-mentioned database and also give you the CV’s so that you can select from the database a candidate well suited to contractors needs, this applies to every are, the skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled.

“The main thing is that we work collectively. The committee invites the public to bring in their business packs as an SMME and the unemployed to can bring in their CV’s for the next two weeks,” said Reyneke.

They would like to have a fully functional committee in the next six months. The team was elected on the September 27. The objective of the committee is to deal with the problems and struggling in which the SMME’s go through.

The committee is well aware of all the issues and they would like to assist the SMME’s in Ward 68 fight their battles, therefore they are calling on SMME’s to send in their documents.

The committee will act as a representative of all SMME’s in the Ward, to look at their profile, to see what they have been offered by the contractors and by seeing if they are being paid correctly.

“We are helping COJ, we are helping JDA’s we helping the main contractors to ensure that there isn’t strikes and fighting, we make sure that we keep record of the unemployed who have been employed, this also ensures that there isn’t nepotism, in turns of the SMME’s it rotates and that people can grow,” said Lloyd Booysens.

There isn’t much development happening in Ward 68 in the 60 years of existence, therefore the committee would like to assist in changing the ward.
