Silent memorial held in remembrance of 4-year-old, Shaynice Talla

Eldos residents join hands against societal ills

In a sombre, silent vigil held for preschooler Shaynice Talla, the Eldorado Park community held a candlelight vigil on the corner of Mahonie and Mapelaberg from 6 pm this evening.

The memorial mourned her tragic death and a family still reeling in anguish at a young life taken too soon.

Shaynice went missing from the family home on September 27 at 4 pm and her body was found in an open drain in Extension Two at a nearby koppie after an intensive search mounted by the Eldorado Park police, the Local Drug Action Committee and residents from the area, known as ‘Die Samas’.

Speculation is rife about what could have caused her untimely death, and a man has been taken into police custody following the gruesome discovery.

The family and the Eldorado Park community are demanding answers and are awaiting the pathology report which may provide the closure they seek.

The strong show of support by residents who attended the vigil remains a clear sign that deaths like these will not be tolerated, and while police are seeking answers, Eldos residents remain hopeful that the answers they seek will lead to justice for Shaynice.
