Commuters are urged to be on the lookout for any suspicious behaviour by taxi drivers in and around Claremont, Johannesburg

Notorious Quantum strike again.

A white Toyota Quantum was involved in an attempted kidnapping at the corner of Hamilton Street and Brown Road in Claremont on June 24 between 9 am and 10 am.

The taxi’s registration number, DL00BZGP, was traced to Meadowlands.

The victims included a young lady, an elderly woman and two men managed to escape the moving vehicle as the taxi began diverting off course, but were seriously injured in the process.

The young lady and her brother were hospitalised due to the severity of their injuries. The taxi came to a halt and the victims were chased by the passenger but managed to flee.

The victims noted the suspicious behaviour of the driver and the passenger when the driver went off the prescribed route and headed towards another destination.

Their enquiries about his behaviour fell on deaf ears and they made a break for it. The young lady and her two brothers laid a case against the taxi driver at the Sophiatown Police Station.

Commuters are warned to be on the alert for any suspicious behaviour by taxi drivers in and around Claremont and to always be wary of their surroundings.
