Active Ageing games to keep elderly fit

Event for the elderly to take place this Friday.

The Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation will be hosting a “Active Ageing Sports Day” for the elderly people in Westside.

This event allows elderly citizens from different social clubs to participate in sports activities and indigenous games.

The event is well known among the elderly and more are participating in the event.

The purpose of the event is to allow the aged to compete against one another and to promote healthy living.

Sports coordinator for the department Bjorn Dearman said it aims at keeping the elderly fit.

“Our aim is to encourage healthy lifestyles n to keep the elderly active.

“It is also a catalyst for social cohesion,” said Dearman.

The event will be taking place at the Union Stadium at approximately 10 am on Friday.

Last years’ event was a huge success with over five social taking part.
