Upcoming artists light up Jabulani Mall

White Star Super Maize Meal and Miss Soweto hunt for the next big thing.

After 39 years of existence, the Miss Soweto pageant is doing things differently this year by giving local talent a chance to shine.

Sponsors, White Star Super Maize Meal invaded Jabulani Mall this past weekend in search of the next generation of entertainers to wow the crowd at the finals of the pageant in December.

Dancers, singers and poets came out in full force to audition for a slot to perform in one of the most prestigious events of the year Soweto has to offer.

One of the judges, renowned choreographer and founder of Soweto’s Finest Dance group Thomas “Tom London” Chauke said they were looking for more than talent.

“We are looking for individuals and groups that are not only talented but who also have strong personalities. We are looking for performers who can interact with the crowd and so it’s important that all those auditioning should bring their A game,” said Chauke.

Performers who make it to the top five will not only get a chance to perform at the finals of Miss Soweto in December but they will also be mentored and guided by Soweto’s Finest and pageant judges to get them ready for the big stage.

Mokhele Makhothi, White Star marketing manager said, “We want to give back to the community of Soweto and we believe that a search for top performers from the area is the perfect way to unearth talent, all the while getting everyone involved in the hype and glitz and glamour of the pageant.”

Through the talent search, organisers are taking the Miss Soweto pageant which has been running for 39 years to the next level.

Current Miss Soweto Buhle Xulu graced the event and reminded revellers that entries to take part in the contest are still open.Genetic Movers (dancing group)
