Water supply back to normal for now

Residents are urged to save water to avoid unexpected restrictions.

Johannesburg Water will be issuing daily updates regarding water supply to residents to keep them in the knowing of what is happening.

Ward 82 Councillor Susan Stewart has assisted in getting water tankers to the different areas.

“We will alert areas that are affected by the level-2 water supply restrictions to reduce our customers’ consumption.

“Water tankers will also be supplied to the affected areas if restrictions are implemented,” said Stewart.

Areas that were experiencing severe water shortages were:

Westbury, Coronationville, Brixton, Mayfair, Ridgeway, Ormonde, Fordsburg, Robertsham, Crown Gardens, Vlakfontein, Lenasia, Zakariya Park  and surrounding areas.

Water tankers were supplied to Langlaagte, Westdene, Westbury, Claremont, Coronationville and Helen Joseph Hospital over the course of last week

Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environment and Infrastructure Services Matshidiso Mfikoe urges residents to be cautious when coming to water consumption.

“Though water will still be available, the system supply pressure will also be reduced.

“In the event that the situation gets worse a level three restriction would have to be imposed and this means water only at stipulated times.

“In other words if the stipulated times are mornings and evenings then no other supply during other unstipulated times thus it is important for residents to comply with level two,” said Mfikoe.

Water supply interruptions include:

  • Planned water interruptions for maintenance work and infrastructure upgrades
  • Emergency water interruptions due to burst pipes, vandalism etc

“We request that residents distinguish between service interruptions and the level-2 water restrictions,” said Stewart.

Water saving tips:

  • Do not water your garden between 6am – 6pm
  • Do not fill swimming pools
  • Don’t leave taps dripping
  • Take shallow baths
  • Shorten your shower
  • Don’t use a hose pipe to wash your car

“If more water is saved then cuts will be decreased,” said Stewart.
