Man gets 18 years for murder

Valdene Jacobs was stabbed to death last year by her ex-boyfriend.

The man responsible for the death of Valdene Jacobs got an 18 year sentence at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court yesterday.

Jacobs was stabbed to death last year October by her ex-boyfriend in a “crime of passion” as described by the judge.

Before handing down the sentence, the presiding judge gave his findings.

“What we have here is a man who committed a very bad crime, a crime of passion.

“He killed in anger and for that he must be severely punished, he is a danger to society,” the judge said.

He ordered that the convicted man attend anger management courses.

“I do find that he was remorseful because he handed himself over, he isn’t an ordinary thug.

“It is for me very difficult to send him to jail for the rest of his life, rehabilitation is still possible,”

Melanie Jacobs, Valdene’s mother approached the convict after receiving his sentence.

“You knew Valdene wouldn’t hurt a fly but you killed her in that brutal way.

“All I want to know is why did you do it?” she said.

Jacobs says she doesn’t believe that justice has been served and the convict never showed remorse to the family.
