Illegal connections removed
Operation to remove illegal connections successful.
On July 8, South African Police Services in Langlaagte together with City Power held a joint operation at Zamimpillo Informal Settlement.
The purpose of the operation was to remove illegal connections in the settlement that were causing electricity blackouts in the area.
Warrant officer Gordon Billings from the station was at the scene.
“The operation went off very peaceful and there was no hostility from the community.
“There were some who followed the City Power personnel as they removed the cables,” said Billings
After the operation, 1300 kg’s of electrical cables were removed from the area.
The value of the material is unknown and there is no knowledge of who assisted them in connecting the illegal cables.
“We will continue to monitor the area.
“Not only is it illegal, but it is also very dangerous for the community and the surrounding areas,” said Billings.
