Making a difference for the hungry

A man who was digging for scrap was taken for lunch by a kind-hearted man.

About 11 million people are hungry and living without regular meals, according to FoodBank South Africa.

Lawrenzo Koeberg from Blessed to be a Blessing came across one of such people, known only as Able.

Koeberg saw the man collecting cans and cardboard boxes in an attempt to survive.

“Able has been on the streets for five months.

“When I asked the reason for him leaving his house, I was expecting to hear that his family couldn’t survive instead Able said he left because he wants to be independent,” Koeberg said.

Koeberg took able for lunch.

“A few minutes of sharing a meal and filled with laughter brought Able to a place of acceptance.

“As human beings we walk with a mindset always thinking the worst ‘How do I confront him? What if he chases me away?” Koeberg said.

He prayed with Able and is proud to say that Able gave his life to Jesus.

“Abel’s physical or natural circumstances may not have been changed as yet but his soul was placed into the right hands.

The 20 minutes of my lunchtime never killed me, it is the Word of God that reminded me that there are souls to be won that just can’t wait for Sunday morning or the next conference,” Koeberg said.

Stop Hunger Now, an organisation that coordinates the distribution of food stated that 925 million people don’t have enough to eat, 98% of them live in developing countries.

According to the organisation, one in seven people in the developing world suffer from hunger while it kills more people every year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.

More than 2500 people die daily from hunger related causes.

World Hunger Day is held annually in an attempt to raise awareness and help feed the hungry by supporting organisation like FoodBank SA or Stop Hunger Now.
