Steven Pienaar Tournament

Steven Pienaar Community Tournament to take centre stage on June 16.

It’s that time of the year again when the Steven Pienaar Community Tournament sets the town alight.

The tournament was started by Steven Pienaar with the aim of giving back to his home town- Westbury, by attracting youngsters to play soccer.

The tournament has a rich history in Westbury and attracts local teams from Riverlea, Toekomsrus, Noordegesig, Westbury, Soweto, Bosmont and other soccer loving clubs to partake.

The tournament has a round robin stage where teams are placed in groups and play each other. Thereafter the top two teams from each group qualify for the knockout rounds and the final being the main attraction.

It kicks off on June 6, then the knockout games will be played on June 13 and 14 and final taking place on June 16.

Entries for this much anticipated event are now open.

There was a misunderstanding between two venues, Bosmont Grounds and Westbury Grounds.

Reason being that the Westbury Grounds was to be revamped in this time but provincial government has stalled operations until after the tournament, which led back to Westbury Grounds being the ideal venue.

The Bosmont Grounds, however, is now under rehabilitation.

Stalls are also allowed but only if registered.

Team rewards for the tournament are: 1st prize- R50, 000, 2nd prize- R20, 000 with 3rd and 4th place taking home R5000.

The affiliation fee is R3000 per team. For more information contact Bjorn on 072 928 0231.
