Community joins hands to reduce speed

Almost 200 gathered at the accident scene to remind motorists to reduce their speed.

Gathering almost 200 campaigners, the Local Drug Action Committee held a candle lighting ceremony in Extension Three where an accident robbed three children of their lives last Saturday.

Campaigners stood at the robots with children chanting “Speeding kills, save our children!” prompting passing motorists to hoot in agreement.

Cheryl Pillay, chairperson of LDAC said the campaign will continue throughout the month of April, until calming zones are put in the Main Road.

“We are losing too many lives in this Main Road,” she said.

Children placed lit candles at the robots while the crowd sang ‘I’m going home’ accompanied by a band.
