Dangerous weapons found at school raid

Raid at Westbury School.

Westbury Secondary School was raided this morning, where pupils were searched for drugs and illegal goods.

“No drugs were found but we did find dangerous weapons like screwdrivers. We also found equipment that is used for a hookah pipe,” Warrant Officer Jerbes De Bruyn said.

He said that the operation will be run across schools in Gauteng and specific schools have been identified for raids.

De Bruyn urges parents to search the bags of their children in order to be aware of their doings.

“Parents must be able to identify signs if their children are carrying dangerous weapons, using drugs or being bullied at school,” De Bruyn said.

He said that victims of bullying usually carry dangerous weapons to school to protect themselves.

The Sophiatown police have previously done raids at schools.
