Man shot dead after robbery

A shootout between robbers and a victim claims a life.

An alleged armed robber was shot dead on Wednesday morning.

A man was said to be robbed of his cash at Jamila Centre immediately after he withdrew it from an ATM.

It is alleged that three suspects, who were in a blue BMW, approached the complainant and demanded his cash.

One of the suspects pointed the victim with a firearm and ordered him to give them his money.

An undisclosed amount of cash was then taken from him.

When they left him he took out his firearm and fired shots through the windscreen of the BMW while the suspects were in the vehicle.

The suspects fired back at the victim but he was not injured.

Two suspects managed to escape from the scene.

One suspect could not escape as he was fatally injured, he died at the scene.

The deceased had bullet wounds on his lower body.

Two dockets have been opened, armed robbery and an inquest.

The vehicle which was used by the suspects has bee taken to the police storage camp.

No arrests had been made at the time of publishing and investigations are continuing.
