Bring dignity back to Westbury Primary

Education MEC follows up on his promise.

The MEC for education, Panyaza Lesufi paid a visit to Westbury Primary School after the school had no electricity and had filthy toilets.

“My daughter urinated on herself because she refused to use those filthy toilets,” said a parent.

“After reading how a child would rather wet themselves than use the school toilets, this touched me deeply. Sanitation equals dignity,” said Lesufi.

This was his second visit to the school.

Lesufis’ visit today was to check if the contractors have done what was agreed and to check on the mid-year performances of pupils.

“I am here to ensure that the school has operational toilets and see if the contractors are cleaning the toilets. I have given a deadline for all schools in Gauteng to make sure that each school has functional toilets and to ensure that any sanitation problems are sorted out,” he said.

He has vowed that teachers that aren’t working will be dealt with by management.

“Teachers that are not performing in classrooms have to be dealt with. I am visiting all schools to check the mid-year performance across the province to ensure that pupils are performing. We want to bring dignity back into our schools,” said Lesufi.
