Locals queue to make their mark

Voters expect government to listen.

As South Africans go to the poll, they are in expectation of a government that is there for the people.

Queues of people across the country stood to mark their ‘X’ next to their party.

Alexander Solomon (67) says: “Racism has never left us, it is vital for brown skin people (Coloured race) to vote.
“This government is looking right pass the coloured communities.”

The scourge of drugs and crime is just one of the topics that voters are having while standing in the queues.

“These drugs are killing our children, government needs to do more,” says Nausa Sissing.

IEC officials said they are expecting more of the ‘born frees’ to come to their stations throughout the day.

Over 25 million people have registered with 22 000 voting stations across the country.

Voting stations have been open from 7am and will close at 9pm.
