Cavendish Primary School celebrated its 30 year anniversary in November.

Cavendish Primary School celebrated its 30th anniversary on November 9.

The theme on the day was going back in time and saw many people dress accordingly.

An entertaining programme featured song, dance and drama items from Grades R to Seven pupils.

Tributes from former principals Ralph Hendrickse, Grant Weimers and Zenobia Du Preez were made as they remembered the sport, cultural and academic achievements of the school.

Ismail Bhoola, a former pupil and current treasurer on the student governing body (SGB) remembered all the former teachers and the impact that the school had on his life.

Reggie Philander, a current Koffifi FM DJ and former head boy at the school shared some memories of being pinched, scolded at but most of all challenged at his school of choice.

Tshepo Seate, district director at Johannesburg Central District, complemented the harmonious relationship that exists amongst the SMT and SGB at the school. She challenged all parents to direct their children back to Sunday school and back to basic principles of love, respect and Ubuntu.

Many former teachers, support staff, district officials, former pupils and neighbouring principals attended.

Fabian Kelly, the current school principal said he was humbled by the huge success of the entire day.

He said: “We give all praise to God Almighty for in Him we live, move and have our being.

“Together with a dedicated and inspiring staff, SGB and mostly our talented pupils, we managed to plan and present a splendid programme”.

Cavendish Primary School has reached many milestones. They were awarded sport school of the year in 2005, Kelly was selected to visit Harvard University in the USA for two consecutive years, Iris Nxumalo, a former head-girl matriculated with five distinctions in 2011 and was the top pupil in the Johannesburg Central Disctict. Kelly is also the chairperson of the Eldorado Park Principals Forum and a teacher is the chairperson of the Eldorado Park Sport Union.

“The school is renowned for producing well disciplined pupils who are thoroughly equipped for secondary school and beyond,” Kelly said.

They participate in cultural activities through Pro Artes Populi and has won many awards in poetry and speech.

A professional video production was made of the entire day and is available from the school.

The newly renovated school library was officially opened and dedicated to Hendrickse for his commitment to the education and upliftment of the Eldorado Park community.
