MEC Mazibuko offers her condolences to slain girl’s family

Residents urged to oppose bail for Sandy Maharla's alleged killer.

MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, on Wednesday met with the family of Sandy Maharla where she offered her condolences.

“I came here to offer my deepest condolences, I understand what it is like to lose a loved one,” Mazibuko said.

She met with police prior to meeting the family where she reprimanded them for not providing the family with updates on the case. Craig Marie, Maharla’s step-father said that although they received post mortem results, that states the cause of death is ‘unnatural’ he still wants more information on the time, date and cause of death.

“All we want is closure,” Marie said.

Mazibuko said the police would work with the family to ensure that justice is served. Martin Louis, principal of Missouri High (where Maharla attented) pleaded with residents to oppose bail.

An argument erupted between Mazibuko and Mervin Steenkamp (biological father) after she accused him of harassing police.

Mazibuko was escorted out.
