The family of Sandy Maharla is distraught after the discovery of her decomposed body on Sunday morning.

Sandy was sent to pay an account on Friday at 3 pm but never returned home.

“We were worried because she’s always at home by 6:30 pm,” said her step-father Craig Marie.

The family enquired at the store if the account was paid but, “it looks like she never got to the store,” said Arndene Alaard from the CPF.

The family and neighbours searched for her over the weekend an when Marie heard of a body had been found in a veldt next to Diamond Flats, he went to identify her body.

Her body was decomposed and would not be easy to identify according to a resident who works at a funeral parlour.

“I knew that was my daughter,” Marie said when he saw her lying in a veldt.

Still the family and community had hope that Sandy would be found alive and continued their search. The family identified her body later the afternoon at a mortuary.

Police have opened a case of murder and are calling on witnesses to come forward.

The CPF said parents should keep a closer watch over their children especially because the festive season is approaching.

Sandy was 18 years old and attended Missouri High School.
