Affordable interior decorating ideas for your home

Keeping up with home maintenance can feel like an exercise in futility when you see the price of a carpenter or general handyman. And yet, we deserve to feel satisfaction within them, which is why we’ve looked into a few ways to achieve those decor enhancements without dipping into your savings.

Sometimes decorating your home or breathing life into old, tired surfaces can feel impossible due to the price. We want to take pride in our homes but how can we do that when everything is so expensive and simply keeping food on the table is the most pressing concern? As with most things, it’s a little easier when you know how to cheat the system. There are more than a few visual tricks which can transform your home back into a delight for your eyes without distressing your wallet simultaneously.

Whether you already do or you’re intent on purchasing property in Johannesburg, the research indicates you’re making a good decision at the right time, but maintaining a home is a challenge altogether apart from buying one. As we get caught up in our routines and have so little time for ourselves, not to mention having even less energy after a full day’s work, it can feel somehow beyond our grasp to fix that bothersome little trouble spot in our home that’s become run-down. This is especially true when it seems like it’s going to cost money we don’t have, but that’s where a few tricks of the trade come in.

Damaged cupboards and kitchen surfaces can become really unsightly, and it happens easily since they’re on the receiving end of a lot of wear and tear over the years. If you were under the impression that you’d need to hire or find a carpenter there is some good news for you. Sanding roughened edges and applying a coat of varnish costs very little and doesn’t take much time at all. Despite this, it can create a fresh new look, breathing renewed vigour into old surfaces.

The bedroom can be given a fresh new makeover with very little effort if you know where to start. If your bed frame is getting along and has a headboard then its age is likely showing beyond your tolerance. If sanding and varnish don’t work here then an attractive piece of cloth just may. Inexpensive but visually appealing fabric can be cast over the headboard to give the backdrop of your bedroom an entirely new look. Changing and old lampshade can add to this effect; perhaps something in a red or purple to alter the colour of the light in the room.

We all deserve to be proud of our homes, we have a right to be.
