MEC says e-toll system have been misinterpreted

“About 80% of motorists using the province’s e-tolled highways would pay less than R100 per month."

At the Tourism Summit held in Sandton recently, Gauteng MEC Ismail Vadi said the e-toll system has been misrepresented.

“About 80% of motorists using the province’s e-tolled highways would pay less than R100 per month.

“No one goes through 42 e-toll points daily,” the MEC said.

His comments came as a respond to questions regarding the effect e-tolling would have on tourism as tourists use rental cars.

He answered by saying if the roads weren’t upgraded, tourists would spend more time on the road due to congestion.

He said if the government had money, it would pay.

He said the proposed toll tarrifs are open for public comment until November 8.
