Mofolo North Ponya celebrates his new sesotho poetry book

Letotoba is a collection of 33 new poems that focuses on different themes namely; spiritual, relationships (love), politics, youth (June 16), inspiration and motivation.

Born and bred in Tsolobeng Village in Mount Fletcher, Eastern Cape, the 36-year old Sesotho poet Motlalekgotso Ponya popularly known as Entshophuthi Lephasa Tsopia released a new Sesotho poetry book titled Letotoba meaning walking stick.

Letotoba is a collection of 33 new poems that focuses on different themes namely; spiritual, relationships (love), politics, youth (June 16), inspiration and motivation.

Ponya represented Mofolo North after participating in a writing competition in 2011 and winning a prize that included getting his work published in Amazwi Ethu. Ponya however now chosen the self-publishing option for his second poetry book which has recently been published and is doing well on the market, according to the Sesotho poet.

Ponya said whenever he was writing he had the challenge to translate his thoughts to English and told himself that nothing can stop him to write his poems in Sesotho. “I want to inspire people to use their languages through my book. You can pass the message with any language you are comfortable with even more better,” said Entshophuthi Lephasa Tsopia.

Entshophuthi Lephasa Tsopia wants his book to be used in schools because he believes that the book will help learners to improve their vocabulary. “I want this book to be used in schools because I believe that the book will help learners to improve their vocabulary and I explained some of the terms,” he said.

“We have to be united, peace, one love and no need to kill each other,” said Ponya when asked which message is sending through the book.

“I am going to change the Sesotho poems into music and music videos will always be available because I want to see this book in the future to play in Radio Stations and reach worldwide.”

Entshophuthi Lephasa Tsopia mentioned that the cover page of his book is a wall painting done by Patrick Cordingley and he wrote a short story as a dedication to him because of the role he played in his life before Cordingley passed away.
