Orlando East family in turmoil over graveyard saga

The problem started back in 2011 when the elder sister Mhlongo wanted to build a wall around his mother, grandmother, and brother but couldn’t proceed in the mother's grave because the was a tombstone that had overlapped to their mother's tomb.

Two siblings Thembelani Mhlongo and Philisiwe Mthiyane from Orlando East in Soweto have been struggling to install a tombstone in their mother’s grave for close to nine years.

The problem started back in 2011 when the elder sister Mhlongo wanted to build a wall around his mother, grandmother, and brother but couldn’t proceed in the mother’s grave because the was a tombstone that had overlapped to their mother’s tomb.

The siblings alleged that they went to the office in Avalon to report and were told that the matter would be resolved but until today they are unable to put a tombstone for their mother. They further alleged that they were told that the tombstone that had overlapped belonged to a family from Diepkloof zone 5.

Both sisters alleged that when they visit the offices they found the same person who always made promises that she never keeps.

Mhlongo and Mthiyani said last year alone they went to the offices five-time only to receive a call that the matter was resolved but upon arrival, this January things were still the same nothing had changed.

“It’s been long, we are tired of waiting, we just want to put the tombstone. Can we please get help as soon as possible because we are tired of waiting,” alluded the family

All the family requests are for the problem to be resolved so that they can honour their mother’s memory by marking where her body was laid and would like to do it as soon as possible.

On Thursday, January 23 – an email was sent to the spokesperson of Johannesburg City Parks & Zoo Jenny Moodley and on the time of print, she had not responded. A follow-up article will be printed once the response has been received.
