Motsepe Foundation hands Thaba Jabula new science laboratory

Thaba Jabula is also among one of the biggest schools with the best performance, not only academically but sports and music participation is also top of the list.

The Motsepe Foundation was pleased to honour Thaba Jabula Secondary School with their new and refurbished laboratory.

In 2018, Motsepe Foundation funded a cheque worth R150 000 to Thaba Jabula for the benefit of improving their resources within the premises.

The school, realizing that their science lab was not on par, so much that whenever students needed to conduct experiments, they would have to walk to the University of Johannesburg (UJ) because they lacked the equipment to conduct these experiments in their premises – the school board then decided it was a fitting idea to build the learners a lab.

“When you are sponsored, you need to identify the project that you must do to enhance the functionality of the school.

“My learners and my science teachers were always walking from here (Thaba Jabula Secondary School) to the University of Johannesburg across the Chris Hani road.

“That was not always a good thing for me and when I looked at that, it was risky because they were walking and anything could have happened before they enter the premises.

“Then I spoke to the governing body that let us prioritize and have a laboratory that will be functional,” Said Mr. Mphuma Kenneth, headmaster of Thaba Jabula.

“It’s encouraging to our learners, it’s encouraging to our community that we don’t have to travel far to get what we want and we don’t have to travel far to learn, but let us have our institutions equipped with all the required resources so that we can be a progressive and excelling nation,” said Fikile Lapshe from the Department of Education.

Thaba Jabula was happy to announce that the science lab will be opened to other neighbouring schools because the school’s objective is not to not only aid in their learners success but to also be a greater impact to other schools because future success belongs to the youth, and so it should be allowed the tools and resources that will propel them into a prosperous future.

Thaba Jabula is also among one of the biggest schools with the best performance, not only academically but sports and music participation is also top of the list, meaning the school can have a greater impact in neighbouring schools with the resources that they now possess.
