Diepkloof women boldly take over the streets to reclaim them

The MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko personally visited the community, however, to make it clear that the streets do not belong to the criminals.

The crimes committed in Diepkloof, especially the Contact Crimes have caused the people from Diepkloof to feel slightly vulnerable every-time they need to run errands in the evening or whenever they go out and happen to have to return home late at night.

The MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko personally visited the community, however, to make it clear that the streets do not belong to the criminals.

The MEC, boldly stated that the thugs who violate their families have nowhere else to go but prison.
Mazibuko said, “We are here to reclaim our streets, the ladies must be able to walk through their neighbourhoods anytime, unbothered.”

Before the walk through the streets of Diepkloof to reclaim them, the elderly ladies from Diepkloof got the opportunity to cough out all the domestic issues in their homes to the MEC, who said, “Ladies, we relate to your problems, because we are women as well and we come from families too.”

The ladies in Diepkloof, young and old got to boldly stroll through their neighbourhood after sunset, wearing their short and comfortable skirts, making the statement that their bodies only belong to themselves, accompanied by the MEC, the SAPS and the CPF.

Zenzile Tshabalala the Deputy Chairperson for the CPF in Diepkloof explained that they were prepared to reclaim the crime-ridden streets of Diepkloof and that the ladies were dressed in their skirts to march the streets during the reclamation march as the MEC had suggested they should, to show their freedom and fearlessness.

Lerato Motsoeneng also joined the ladies and exclaimed that they would be freely walking the streets, reclaiming them.
