The Greater Meadowlands Community Policing Forum (GMCPF) wants answers to what happened to money donated by a local church, Rock of Salvation.

The money was donated for patrollers who claim it never got to them.

Patrollers say they thought the money would be shared among them as it was a token of appreciation for the work they do.

Treasurer of sector, Vuyelwa Mandlazi, was called to account to the supposedly mismanaged money.

She said she counted the money once and that it was kept in a safe at the police station.

“During that period I was not happy with how thing were going. I really did not consider myself a treasurer anymore.

“I received calls asking me to give authorisation for the money to be released and used for other purposes.

“I was told it was going to be used for our banner and sweaters for patrollers.

“I never really heard about the money since as I had stopped engaging in the dealings of GMCPF.”

Patroller Daisy Lentsane said there was no consultation about how the money would be used.

She said: “We had a gathering at Sedibeng where we gave R70 towards the food but we found out later that the food was free and our money was used to pay for the jackets.

A patroller, Thenjiwe Kubeka, said patrollers are not paid the same amount and are not respected.

The executive of GMCPF excused themselves from the meeting and said they were being interrogated. They did not get a chance to defend or explain anything.

They said they would respond in due course to all the grievances.

Another patroller, Mandisa Makhaba suggested that a criminal case should be opened.
