Traffic light request finally answered

After years of several accidents on corner Modjadji and Sanders Roads and years of residents petitioning for the traffic lights, it finally happened.

Traffic lights have been installed on the busy Sanders Road between Zone Two and Zone Four as residents of Meadowlands had initially wished.

After years of several accidents on corner Modjadji and Sanders Roads and years of residents petitioning for the traffic lights, it finally happened two weeks ago.

Over a month ago, residents barricaded the road, dissatisfied that accidents were continuing to happen and nothing was being done.

Ward 42 Councillor, Takalani Nefotini is pleased about the new development but he has his concerns.

Nefotini said he has made his observations since the development and that he is disappointed that some motorists, especially taxi drivers still do not stop when they have to.

“The government has played its part, now motorists need to obey the rules of the road.

“Reckless behaviour kills people on our roads.

“When are people ever going to learn?.”

A resident, Kenneth Makgale shares the same sentiments as the councillor.

He is pleased by the new traffic lights but he is upset by taxi drivers’ behaviour.
