Two foundations join hands to better the life of children from disadvantaged families

Open Hand Foundation aims to assist children from the disadvantaged background by providing children with school uniform, books, and food among other things.

The saying two hands are better than one goes hand in hand with Ubuntu ‘humanity’ and that is why Chester’s tournament joined hands with Open Hand Foundation to help children in need.

Open Hand Foundation aims to assist children from the disadvantaged background by providing children with school uniform, books, and food among other things.

The foundation co-founder Bongani Zwane said they decided with partner Xolani Mdletshe to merge the tournament and the foundation because they realised that the some of the children do not have food and it is not fair for them to come to participate and play on an empty stomach.

Open Hand Foundation Bongani Zwane plans to help children with clothes, food, and toys for Chirstmas day.

“We found out that there are many kids who come at the sports ground around 9 AM till 6 PM late they use to ask me to buy them food and I had to make sure that I have some money to buy at list 5 kids a day. The sad part is that some of the kids don’t even have food at home that is mainly why we initiated the foundation” said Zwane.

Zwane said they were fortunate enough to get the sponsorship that can assist them in terms of providing food for children, he said yesterday the foundation feed approximately 80 kids thanks to Surprise Mthembu who sponsored them with food.

“We plan to do more, on the 25 December we want to have black Christmas where every black child from a poverty-stricken background will enjoy charismas day,” he continued.

“We would love for sponsors to also take part and help us to buy clothes, jumping castles, toys, school uniforms, books so that this year there is no child who feels excluded because of poverty, not anymore lets just open our hands to children so that we don’t raise children who run to drugs like ‘Nyaope’ to deal with stress,” said Zwane.

Surprise Mthembu from Shlom community development said it is a good idea for Zwane to initiate a foundation that will assist children because the kids are roaming around the streets and they have nothing to do so at least with football and other activities the kids will have something to focus on.
