Calling all Soweto house and kwaito musicians

The award ceremony has previously awarded artists such as Busiswa, who recorded a song with Beyonce for the Lion King soundtrack, Mshoza and Mandoza to name a few.

The Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards (MKHMA) are inviting musicians in Soweto who quali-fy to enter the awards before the July 31 closing date.

The annual awards ceremony will take place on November 30 at the Big Top Arena in Carnival City. The first award ceremony was held at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown in 2016 but due to the award show’s growth it necessitated a move to a bigger venue.

There are 19 confirmed categories for the 4th annual MKHMA which include best new kwaito artist, best kwaito single and best gqom artist amongst others. There is also an opportunity for pantsula dancers as the organisers will be looking for a group of pantsula dancers to perform at their nomi-nation announcement which will be taking place on August 30.

The award ceremony has previously awarded artists such as Busiswa, who recorded a song with Beyonce for the Lion King soundtrack, Mshoza and Mandoza to name a few.

The organisers say that they are not only concerned with awarding known musicians but also in helping to develop and uncover future stars who will be carrying the kwaito and house flame before passing it to fu-ture generations.

One of the award winners from last year, Ona Leburu who won the Best Kwaito Radio Personality, while working at the North West University FM has now been awarded another position at Mahikeng FM.

Musicians who wish to enter the awards can find entry forms and rules for nominations can be found on the MKHMA website on www.mkhma.co.za
