YES for 3315 unemployed youth

The Youth Employment Service has a new partner.

At an emotion-filled pledge signing, the Nedbank Group announced it would be funding a Youth Employment Service (YES)initiative that will see 3315 young people employed for a year.

The programme, which will be undertaken by several Nedbank partners such as Tradeway, ORT SA and Wild Trust who are specialists in multiple sectors, will see the youth get an opportunity to earn money, work experience and on the job training.

YES CEO, Tashmin Ismail-Saville and Nedbank CEO Mike Brown signed a pledge that will see unemployed youth get a foot in the door in an effort to reduce SA’s youth unemployment rate.

“The one question every interview candidate should be able to answer yes to is, “have you had a job?” Not being able to answer yes exponentially decreases your chances of getting that job. We are increasing the chances of 3315 young people of getting a job after this one exponentially,” said Nedbank Group CEO Mike Brown.

The programme is set to begin in May this year and will come to an end for the 3315 youth next May. YES CEO Tashmia Ismail-Saville, however, hopes their partnership with the company will continue for the next three years in order to help more unemployed youth.

“Business South Africa does need to collaborate, this investment is significant but in order to challenge youth unemployment in the country we need every business big or small to contribute,” Ismail-Saville added.

YES was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa last March in an effort to curb the country’s high youth unemployment rate. The president challenged the private sector to give young graduates and unemployed youth with no experience an opportunity to gain it and prove themselves.
