Alleged robber succumbs to injuries after mob justice

Mob justice leaves one man dead.

A young man was beaten to death when he was served mob justice in Gerald Supermarket next to Thokoza Park.

The incident occurred at about 9:30 to 10:00 am on Thursday, April 4. It is alleged that the young man was robbing one of the pedestrians in the area and a group of people came out and rescued the victim and the community assaulted the suspect and unfortunately the suspect died on the scene and he was aged between 20 and 25.

It is sad but true that crime doesn’t pay and it is a serious offence. The young man was assaulted with stones.



According to Spokesperson of Moroka Police Station, Captain Mpande Khoza the suspect was robbing one of the pedestrians at the area and a group of people came out and rescued the victim and the community assaulted the suspect and unfortunately, the young boy who is aged between 20 and 25 passed away after he was assaulted and beaten with stones.

“We want to appeal to the community across Soweto that they should not take the law into their own hands. Whenever they apprehend a suspect who was involved in the commission of the crime they should call the police and not take the law into their own hands because they end up becoming the victims,” he said.

Captain Khoza added that the police urged the community to work with the them in such incidents instead of taking the law into their own hands
