It’s true! Eldorado Park can be known for good too and this time it is a young man who plans to put the community on the map for all the right reasons. Ziyaad Fredericks is a young soccer player from Eldorado Park who has been given the opportunity to go for trials in the United States of America (USA) next year.

Zayd Fredericks, who is Ziyaad’s father said that he was extremely proud of his son and that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the youngster.

“The trip is very expensive and I would hate it if he wasn’t able to go to the USA because of finances. That is the reason we decided as a family to raise funds so his trip can become a reality,” said Fredericks.

Ziyaad grew up in Eldorado Park, in a football-mad family and at seven years old, decided to take the beautiful game seriously. His entire family supported him and backed his dream all the way.

To date, the burgeoning soccer star has played in many youth tournaments and represented the University of Johannesburg last season. The trials in the USA means that if Ziyaad is successful, he will have an opportunity to play professional football as well as receive a quality tertiary education overseas.

While in the USA, the younger Fredericks will tour a few American universities, where he will be trialled over a period of 10 days. The soccer hopeful said that the opportunity means a lot to him and that it will allow him to grow as a person and to fulfill his childhood dream of becoming a professional football player.

Zayd Fredericks, who is a soccer coach, said that he has been humbled by the support he has received from family, colleagues and friends. Farouk Khan, who coaches Ziyaad at the Stars of Africa Football Academy said that the player is very coach-able and hardworking and disciplined.

“These are all the attributes that will turn him into an incredible soccer player in the future. He has so much potential and we are all proud of him,” he said.

The donations received will be used towards the soccer star’s airfare, accommodation and living expenses while he is in the USA. R 30 500 is needed for each athlete.

“This amount includes tryouts with five universities, car hire, travel and training gear and return flights to the USA which is R14 864 68, ” said Zayd.
